Is Your Schedule Running You—or Are You Running Your Schedule?

When you wake up each morning, do you have a clear plan for the day, or do you find yourself racing from task to task, feeling pulled in every direction? Do you know which areas of your home need attention, or are you stuck in a "putting out fires" approach to maintenance?
If you’ve ever glanced at the clock at 5:00 p.m. and felt a wave of panic about dinner, or if you feel like you’re constantly barely keeping your head above water, ask yourself: Is this how you want to live?
If your answer is "no," you’re in the perfect place to begin a new approach. I’m not here to give you another "to-do" list. I don’t want to add to your mental clutter; I want to alleviate it. My goal is to help you curate a daily and weekly rhythm—one that proceeds at a pace right for you, fits your family’s priorities, and eliminates the decision fatigue that plagues your mind.
The Foundation: Negotiables vs. Non-Negotiables
We all have "hard and fast" timelines: work hours, school runs, and doctor appointments. These are our anchors. Our task is to build a natural flow around these blocks.
Think about the tasks you need—and want—to fit in:
The Essentials: Cooking, cleaning, errands, and pickups.
The Soul-Fillers: Devotion time, exercise, and hobbies.
If we don't intentionally curate how we fill our time, chaos will fill it for us.
Step 1: The "Audit and Purge"
To curate something means intentionally choosing what stays and what goes. Whether it's your closet or your calendar, the approach is the same.
Grab a pen or open your Notes app and list everything: everything you currently do, everything you need to do, and everything you want to do. Be exhaustive. Organize them into these categories:

Work: Home-based or away.
Home: Cleaning, maintenance, and projects.
Family: Sports, homework, and quality time.
Personal Care: (If you laughed at this, prioritize it!) Exercise, reading, or rest.
The Ruthless Edit: Look at your list.
Does it explain those stress headaches? Does it make you want to curl up in a ball? Just as you wouldn’t keep an ill-fitting sweater in a capsule wardrobe, don’t keep an ill-fitting commitment just because you "feel like you have to." Identify what truly matters and be ruthless in letting the rest go.
Step 2: Finding Your Unique Rhythm
There is no one-size-fits-all approach. My mom was a teacher; her flow required cleaning the whole house on Saturday. For me, as a homemaker, I prefer breaking cleaning into small daily bites.
Here is a peek at my weekly flow to spark some inspiration:
Day | Focus Task |
Monday | Clean kitchen, wash towels, schedule appointments |
Tuesday | Write blog post, personal laundry |
Wednesday | Menu plan and grocery shop (Produce delivery day!) |
Thursday | Prep-cooking and baking for the week |
Friday | Flex Day: Errands, vacuuming, catching up |
Saturday | Bathrooms, yard work, kids' laundry |
Sunday | Sabbath: Church and rest (No cooking/screens) |
Pro-Tips for a Smoother Flow
Batch Your Errands: Save all "out and about" tasks for one specific day to avoid daily dashing.
Group by Room: Wash bathroom rugs on the day you actually clean the bathroom.
Delegate: My four children have done their own laundry since 3rd grade. You don't have to carry it all!
Build in Margin: Curate your evening to include a 20-minute read or a hot bath. A schedule without a break isn't a rhythm—it's a treadmill.
The Power of the "Next Right Thing"
Curating your schedule is a game-changer for your mental load. When each day has a rhythm, you no longer have to wonder if things will get done—you know they will. This freedom allows you to focus on the moment at hand, simply doing the "next right thing" and thriving in the peace you’ve created.
Let’s Curate Your Life Together
If reading this feels like exactly what you need, but looking at your "exhaustive list" still feels paralyzing, you don’t have to do it alone. Sometimes we’re too close to our own chaos to see the natural rhythm waiting underneath.
I would love to help you sift through the noise and design a flow that actually feels like breathing room. Whether you’re a busy professional, a fellow homemaker, or someone just tired of "putting out fires," let's build a schedule that serves you.
